Indications/Uses

Active immunisation of adults & childn from 6 mth for prevention of flu caused by flu virus types A & B.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult & childn 6 mth-17 yr 0.5 mL single IM/SC inj. Childn <9 yr not previously vaccinated against flu 2nd dose to be given after at least 4 wk interval.

Overdosage

View Influvac Tetra overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to vaccine, eggs (ovalbumin, chicken proteins), formaldehyde, cetyltrimethylammon Br, polysorbate 80 or gentamicin. Postpone vaccination in patients w/ febrile illness or acute infection.

Special Precautions

Anaphylactic reaction. Not to be inj intravascularly. Not to be used against all possible strains of flu virus. Thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorder; anxiety- & stress-related reactions, syncope, hyperventilation. Avoid injury from faints. Insufficient Ab response in patients w/ endogenous or iatrogenic immunosuppression. Infants <6 mth.

Adverse Reactions

Headache; sweating; myalgia; fatigue, malaise, inj site pain, redness, swelling & induration. Adults & elderly: Arthralgia; shivering, inj site ecchymosis. Childn 6 mth-17 yr: Drowsiness; appetite loss; nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting; irritability/fussiness; fever.

Drug Interactions

Diminished immunological response w/ immunosuppressants. False +ve ELISA serologic tests for HIV-1, hepatitis C & HTLV-1.
